Advocacy

Advocacy Committee Co-Chairs: Constance Bloomfield, Jesse Thompson

The ADVOCACY Committee brings together architects and other friends of design to think strategically about policies and projects that effect the built environment in the Portland area. We grapple with the constraints that define buildings before design begins: policy, regulation and perception. The Committee helps to shape the Portland Society of Architects position on issues of the day—such as major developments, historic districting, design standards and zoning.

Members of the Committee have served on neighborhood and stakeholder groups shaping major public projects; the group has prepared and read statements for public hearings before the Portland City Council and Planning Board.

The Committee meets twice monthly and is open to all. PSA members are encouraged to bring concerns about planning and design to the Advocacy Committee for a thorough discussion and possible organizational follow-up.
