Portland Society of Architects Offers Free Design Help

The Portland Society of Architects is presenting its annual ‘10-Minute Architect’, a free design clinic on Thursday, March 8th at Bard Coffee on 185 Middle Street in Portland’s “Old Port”.

The free design clinic is offered to homeowners and business owners who are considering when and how to use an architect for a project, or just want some design or building guidance. Although titled, ‘10-Minute Architect’, we gladly offer up to 45 minutes with participants, discussing issues such as basic layouts, project budget feasibility, permitting issues and more.

PSA clinic volunteers include architects, builders and engineers from over 40 different firms in and around Portland.  Part of the mission of the PSA is to assist in educating the community-at-large in understanding, evaluating, and supporting design excellence in architecture.

Each year, ‘10-Minute Architect’ receives rave reviews from both the architectural community and the attendees.  The majority of the participants left happily more informed, inspired and motivated to tackle their individual projects. Participants commented that it was an “incredible opportunity to talk to architects” and that it helped them “in considering building alternatives, determining the scope of their project and figuring out the feasibility”.  The interaction proved enjoyable to the architects as well, who thrived on the opportunity to do what they do best, solve problems.

Participants are encouraged to bring plans, photo’s, sketches or any documentation that will aid in the discussion of their project.

Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome.
