Who belongs to PSA?

PSA’s growing membership includes architects, engineers and individuals who are passionate about design and urban planning. It is psa’s goal to enlist the support of the community at large in an effort to insure that Portland will ultimately take its place among the truly great smaller cities in the United States.
 
What do I get for my membership?

advocacy
PSA promotes progress and economic development of Greater Portland by encouraging innovation and vision in design and planning. The PSA Advocacy Committee testified before the Portland Community Development Committee regarding Maine State Pier development proposals and has commented on issues of urban density related to several projects in Portland. The Advocacy Committee prepared a critical analysis of the Design Guidelines proposed for the Bayside neighborhood and will continue to present position papers to the City’s Planning Board on key development issues.

programs
PSA's Program Committee has developed a series of informational programs and social events which are offered to our membership at no charge or for a nominal fee. These programs are designed to promote greater understanding of the importance of quality design and sound urban planning while providing opportunities for networking within the design community.
PSA has launched a series of “Conversations”, which are dinner events featuring casual presentations by invited guest architects talking about projects in early design, followed by lively dinner table conversation, PSA sponsors 10-Minute Architect events each year that provide a unique opportunity for the public to get free one-on-one design advice from local architects, PSA is co-hosting  “Pecha Kucha Nights” with other design related organizations.

In the coming years, Portland will experience a wave of unprecedented growth. Portland Society of Architects is committed to the protection and  enhancement of those aspects of urban design which contribute significantly to Portland’s economic activity and cultural identity. PSA accomplishes this mission through advocacy, collaborations and design related events  intended to expand public  awareness and encourage progressive thinking of  the development issues facing Portland.
