Blowing Bubbles 101!
June 24 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
An Afternoon of Summer Fun, Sculptural Form Finding, and Hands-on Material Computation.
What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? A recurring theme in historical paintings, we know that blowing bubbles has been at least 400 years of summer fun. More recently, artists and designers have studied soap films to compute minimal surfaces and to find forms for awe-inspiring tensile structures. Using simple household materials, you can too! After a very short presentation on the work of the late Pritzker Prize winning architect Frei Otto, we’ll bring out the buckets, the hoops, the strings and the wires to make bubbles, bubbles, and more bubbles. Finally with your new-found bubble expertise, help the Portland Society for Architecture design a pedal-powered parade float on the same theme for Space Gallery’s Field Days Bike Parade on June 30th!
All ages, materials included, $5 fee.
