Transitions | Portland’s Inaugural Beaux Arts Ball
6 – 10PM At The Armory at The Portland Masonic
—
Portland, Maine’s inaugural Beaux Arts Ball will benefit A.C.E. Maine – a statewide mentoring program helping Maine high school students discover the many exciting and rewarding career opportunities available to them in the design, construction and engineering industry.
—
What is a Beaux Arts Ball?
It began in the 17th century, when students at the National Academy of Architecture, Painting and Sculpture in Paris, staged epic masquerade balls at the end of their exams with elaborate costumes modeled after architectural themes that encouraged freedom of expression and social equity for the disguised.
—
Countless architecture institutions, foundations and schools have continued this tradition world-wide and the Portland Society for Architecture and the Maine Interior Design Association are pleased to offer those the opportunity to put their best creativity forward!
Come dressed as your favorite building, architectural theory, or creative interpretation that is generated by the theme: TRANSITIONS.
—
Don’t know where to begin with your costume?
We will be hosting TWO Costume Making Workshops:
Costume Ideation on Thursday, September 6th at Oxbow Brewing and
Costume Construction Thursday, October 4th at BarrettMade’s Public Works
