Construction Tour: The Arts District Garage (serving 511 Congress Street)
August 7 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
The Arts District Garage was designed by Platz Architects and is being constructed by Allied Cook Construction. The ADG is ancillary to the adjacent 511 Congress Street property; a 140,000 square foot office building built in 1973. Ocean Gate LLC, under the leadership of Ed Gardner, acquired the 511 Congress property in 2014 and has since invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to lift the property out of decades of neglect and into Class A status. Ocean Gate’s efforts at 511 Congress have allowed the property to attract and retain high quality businesses in the heart of Portland’s downtown; providing jobs, vitality, and economic stability to the district. The ADG is a cornerstone of Ocean Gate’s master plan for the property. The nearly 300 parking spaces provided in the garage allow the property to better serve tenant businesses while also addressing heavy night, weekend, and holiday demand generated by local hotels, special events, and general downtown activity.
The development team opted to design the project with Exposed Architectural Steel for the design flexibility and lighter feel it presents when compared for the more common pre-cast structures.
On the tour, we look forward to sharing many other details about the planning, design, and execution of the ADG with attendees. Travis Nadeau from Platz Architects as well as Matt Cook from Allied Cook. Ed Gardener from Ocean Gate and Ethan Boxer-Macomber will be there.
