Choice Neighborhood Initiative: Choice Wedgewood & Choice Dewitt

  • Choice Wedgewood Community Room 101 Pine Street Lewiston, ME 04240 United States (map)

Join us for a tour of the Lewiston Choice Neighborhood Initiative in Lewiston, with a tour of the Choice Wedgewood and Choice Dewitt projects. The first phase of the Lewiston Choice Neighborhood Initiative, the Wedgewood development, has added 82 mixed-income residential units, ranging in size from one to four bedrooms, across 9 buildings on 4 separate parcels in the heart of the city. The DeWitt development, the second phase, will create 104 mixed-income homes and approximately 14,000sf of commercial space in two five-story buildings across from Kennedy Park and is slated for completion this year. The City of Lewiston, in partnership with Lewiston Housing Authority and Community Concepts, planned a robust transformation of the Tree Street Neighborhood to replace unsafe housing, preserve neighborhood character, and expand opportunities within walking distance of services and jobs. Wedgewood and Dewitt emerged from the award of a $34 million HUD Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant, making Lewiston the smallest city in the nation to receive the award. Project team members from Lewiston Housing Authority, Avesta Housing, Acorn Engineering, Hebert Construction, Penobscot General Contractors, and Kaplan Thompson Architects will talk about these transformative projects as we walk through Choice Wedgewood, and then down the road to Choice Dewitt.
