Turnout was good for the most recent PSA Brown Bag Tour at Maine College of Art, which took place on September 14. Architect Rick Renner toured our group from top to bottom, guiding us through the magnificent transformation of the former Porteous department store on Congress Street in Portland.  Noting that the college is constantly evolving as various studios, shops and other spaces are needed, Rick also praised Wright-Ryan Construction for their great work there over the years.  The grand, meandering, signature red staircase connects the spaces of each of the 5 floors, while purposefully creating gallery display space at every turn. The MECA building is a fantastic example of building reuse, bringing old and new together while hosting the makers and artists of tomorrow.

If you know of a building that you think PSA should do a tour of, please email Cathy Streifel at CStreifel@ThorntonTomasetti.com.
